Not Forget Bitter Lesson Drawn from Kwangju Uprising
Pyongyang, May 21 (KCNA) -- The Kwangju Popular Uprising in south Korea three decades ago was a patriotic and heroic armed resistance to put an end to outsiders' domination and military dictators' fascist rule and realize the desire for independence, democracy and reunification, says Rodong Sinmun Friday in a signed commentary.

Urging the south Koreans not to forget a bitter lesson taught by the Kwangju resistance, the commentary goes on:

The bitter lesson taught by the Kwangju Popular Uprising is that it is impossible to escape such disaster as Kwangju massacre nor is it possible to realize the people's desire for independence, democracy and reunification as long as aggressors and traitors are allowed to lord it over south Korea.

The U.S. is neither "friend" nor "guardian" of the south Korean people but an aggressor inflicting only pain, misfortune and death upon them. The present ruling forces of south Korea are a group of traitors as they bars the nation from independently carving out its destiny while staying in power by clinging to the coattails of outsiders in betrayal of the country and the nation.

If the south Koreans struggle with the same indomitable mettle and staunch fighting spirit as displayed by the Kwangju resistance fighters, they can certainly build an independent and democratic new society free from aggressors and traitors and reunify the country, concludes the commentary.
