Buddhist Masses Held
Pyongyang, May 21 (KCNA) -- The "north-south simultaneous Buddhist masses to celebrate the birthday of Buddha" took place at temples in different parts of the DPRK on Friday.

Present there were office-bearers of the Central Committee of the Buddhist Federation of Korea and its provincial, city and county committees, priests and monks of temples and believers.

Rituals were made to be followed by speeches. And a joint prayer was read out at masses.

The speakers said that they are celebrating the birthday of Buddha at a stirring time when all the people across the country are turning out as one in the last charge for building a great prosperous and powerful nation to perform fresh miracles and innovation everyday. They called upon the Buddhists to make tangible contributions to building a thriving nation through substantial participation in various activities.

They noted that due to the present south Korean conservative ruling forces' sycophancy toward the U.S. and Japan and their moves for a war against the DPRK, a confrontational phase in which a nuclear war may break out has been created in Korea where the warm wave of the national reconciliation, unity, cooperation and reunification swept, bringing about eye-opening events, unprecedented in the history of the division, guided by the idea of "By our nation itself".

They called upon all the Buddhists in the north and the south and abroad to unite in Dharma-minded concord and actively turn out in practical actions to foil the Lee Myung Bak group's war moves and thoroughly preserve and implement the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration, its action programme.
