Kaesong Boasts of Many Natural Monuments
Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) -- Preserved in Kaesong, which was the capital of Koryo (918-1392), the first unified state of Korea, are many natural monuments.

Two pine trees (Sciadonitys verticillata) growing at the foot of Mt. Songak in the city are 140-odd-years old and 7.2 meters high.

The tree, which has long been considered to be one of ten animals and plants symbolizing longevity, is of ornamental and scientific value.

Growing on the campus of Songgyungwan Academy are three old trees -- a zelkova tree, 25 meters high, 7.1 meters round in lower part and 17 meters in diameter of its crown, and two ginkgo trees, over 30 meters high.

Besides, Styphnolobium japonicum, about 200 years old, Pinus bungeana, zelkova tree (Zelkova serrata) growing in Manwoldae, ginkgo tree in Kaephung, trifoliate orange (Poncirus trifoliata) in Phanmun, terrapin living in the River Rimjin and others have been preserved in Kaesong as natural monuments.
