Kim Jong Il Enjoys May Day Joint Concert
Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il enjoyed a joint concert by the Unhasu Orchestra of the DPRK and the "Orchestra of the 21st Century" of Russia on Saturday, May Day.

The concert began with the playing of the national anthems of the DPRK and Russia. Put on the stage were chorus "May, the Month of Victory", female chorus "Song of Industrial Construction of Country", chorus and orchestra "March of 'Aida'", female solo and chorus "Three Thousand-ri of Vinalon", female duet "Wishes", mixed duet "Oh, Pyongyang", female solo "Are We Living Like in Those Days?" male solo "Officers", female trio "Here Is My Country Where I live", orchestra and chorus "Fantastic Serial Wartime Songs of Russia", female quartet "This Is Icon of Socialism", orchestra "Chollima Gallops forward", mixed chorus "Where Are You, Dear General", and other famous songs loved by the peoples of the two countries and world famous songs and mixed trio and chorus "Pyongyang Where He Is" which was newly created by Pavel Borisovich Ovsyannikov, head of the orchestra, with profound reverence for Kim Jong Il.

The concert presented by famous conductors, instrumentalists and singers including people's and merited artistes, international concours winners of the two countries was acclaimed by the audience for its high artistry and successful representation.

Kim Jong Il conveyed a floral basket to the performers, congratulating them on their successful presentation.

He met with leading members and principal artistes of the Russian orchestra including its head Pavel Ovsyannikov on the same day.

Noting that the Russian orchestra visited the DPRK several times and gave enthusiastic performances, carrying with them friendship towards the Korean people, and thus played a pioneer's role in boosting the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries, he appreciated the efforts made by the orchestra and extended warm greetings to all the creators and artistes of the orchestra.

Among the audience were Kim Yong Chun, vice-chairman of the NDC of the DPRK and minister of the People's Armed Forces, Kim Jong Gak, member of the NDC of the DPRK and first vice director of the General Political Bureau of the KPA, and other commanding officers of the army, Secretaries Choe Thae Bok and Kim Ki Nam and Department Directors Kim Kyong Hui, Jang Song Thaek, Kim Yong Il and Kim Yang Gon and other leading officials of the WPK Central Committee, Kang Sok Ju, first vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, and leading officials of party and power bodies, armed forces organs, working people's organizations, ministries and national institutions and officials in the fields of science, education, culture and arts, public health and media and working people in the city. Also among the audience were Valery E. Sukhinin, Russian ambassador to the DPRK, and official diplomats of the Russian embassy here.
