Pyongyang, April 29 (KCNA) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea has channeled great efforts into protection and proliferation of aquatic resources.

After setting April and July as months for protection of marine resources, the government has strengthened state supervision and control of this work.

Fishery stations have improved living conditions of fishes, while fish farms have stocked breeding ponds with fries and little shellfishes.

Fishing except angling is not allowed in special reserves of aquatic resources, lakes, reservoirs and rivers and such fishes of rare species as Hucho ishikawai, urrmchy, burbot, terrapin and rainbow trout are under strict protection.

Successes have also been made in hatching sea cucumber, abalone, scallop, sea urchin and large clam.

Meanwhile, the Branch Academy of Fishery, based on its achievement in the artificial proliferation of salmon, has intensified research into raising its survival and reproduction rate.
