Maritime Rescue Coordination Center
Pyongyang, April 27 (KCNA) -- The Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) has been established under the Maritime Administration of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

The RCC provides services for marine and voyage safety in coastal waters and ocean and contributes to the protection of sea environment.

The center, fully equipped with modern information and communication facilities for SAR (search and rescue) and LRIT (long-range identification and tracking of ships) suitable to conventions and rules concerning international maritime affairs, traces vessels on the ocean and informs related countries of their position in time to ensure their voyage safety.

It also quickly copes with an emergency on the part of local and foreign vessels entering ports of Korea or navigating in coastal waters.

It has a managing board, central monitoring system, sub-centers, coastal radio stations and local network connection with related units.

It is mostly staffed by experts in satellite communication, radio operation, shipping and oceanography.

Now the center offers marine security information and other necessary services to ships and shipping companies with the help of international organizations, international service centers and the Cospas-Sarsat System.
