Mt. Paektu Area Proved More Abundant in Natural Resources
Pyongyang, April 26 (KCNA) -- Teachers and researchers of Kim Il Sung University have newly discovered more than 30 landscapes and some 2,000 species of animals and plants in the Mt. Paektu area.

Typical landscapes are Betula ermani, Picea jezoensis, bush, Abies nesphrolepis, Larix olgensis var. koreana areas and fantastic rock and grassland areas.

Groups of some 10 species of trees, including Alnus maximowiczii and Salix graciliistyla, were found out in the Paektusan secret camp where the birthplace of General Secretary Kim Jong Il is.

Also confirmed around Mts. Sobaek, Kanbaek, Kom and Sono and Saja Peak around Jong Il Peak in the secret camp are nearly 600 species of rare animals and plants such as Geophilus lineatus, Pinus koraiensis and Malus baccata.

The new discovery shows that 1,857 species of vascular plants and more than 5,000 species of animals exist in the Mt. Paektu area.
