Dedication to Solution to Rural Question
Pyongyang, April 22 (KCNA) -- President Kim Il Sung paid deep concern to the effort for a solution to the rural question in his lifetime.

For this purpose, he visited many rural communities in all parts of the country.

After the ceasefire in Korea, he went to Changsong County, North Phyongan Province to encourage its peasants to turn their poor county into a place good to live in. At that time, many of them wanted to move to plain areas as they could not be well off in the mountainous area.

Under his wise leadership and deep care, the seat and farm villages of the county have undergone a cataclysmic change, making good use of mountains.

The President had the construction of 200,000 houses in the countryside included in the five-year national economic plan (1957-1961) in order to replace peasants grass huts with modern houses.

He then indicated ways of simultaneously pushing ahead with vast projects of city and rural construction to narrow the distinctions between towns and the countryside.

Thanks to his energetic guidance, great achievements have been made in the rural construction with farm villages turned into fairylands of the socialist country.
