Minju Joson Calls for Eliminating Product of Cold War
Pyongyang, April 20 (KCNA) -- Shortly ago, the Western European Union issued a statement and declared the union dissolved.

This has brought to an end the existence of the union, a product of the Cold War era that has lasted for several decades.

Minju Joson Tuesday observes in a signed commentary in this regard: This indicates that it has become the desire common to humankind and the trend of the times to eliminate the product of the Cold War era and achieve peace and stability worldwide.

But the state of ceasefire, a product of the Cold War era, still persists on the Korean Peninsula, gravely threatening regional peace and stability, the commentary notes, and goes on:

The U.S. has kicked up a noisy racket to provoke a new war to seize the DPRK by force of arms.

Once a war breaks out on the Korean Peninsula, it may quickly escalate into a worldwide thermonuclear war.

To defuse tension and ensure peace on the peninsula is, therefore, not a simple regional matter but a very important and responsible task to save Asia and the rest of the world from the disaster of a nuclear war.

The replacement of the armistice agreement by a peace treaty would help defuse the military confrontation on the peninsula and automatically settle the issue of building confidence between the DPRK and the U.S. and, furthermore, create a peaceful environment in the Asia-Pacific.

Whether a war is averted and peace ensured on the peninsula or not entirely depends on the U.S. attitude.

The U.S. would be well advised to face up to the trend of the times toward reconciliation, cooperation and peace, put an end to the state of ceasefire, a product of the Cold War era, and immediately respond to the proposal for concluding a peace treaty.
