Pig iron, Steel Production Up
Pyongyang, April 13 (KCNA) -- Pig iron and steel production has been steadily increased in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

The Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex, a gigantic metallurgical base in the northern part of the country, topped their assignments for the first quarter of the year -- 108.7 percent in the total industrial output value and 101.9, 102.1 and 103.6 percent in pig iron, steel and rolled steel production respectively.

The Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex, too, fulfilled its first quarterly plan ahead of schedule.

The Chollima Steel Complex, Songjin Steel Complex and the Chongjin Steel Plant are also playing a big role in the country's steel production.

The ferrous metallurgical bases of the country are supplied with high-grade iron ores by the Musan Mining Complex, Unryul Mine, Jaeryong Mine and other iron mines.

The Juche-based steel-making system established at steel producers some time ago opened a splendid vista for developing the country's metallurgical industry considerably.
