Actions on Japan's Discrimination against Korean Schools Urged
Pyongyang, April 13 (KCNA) - Organizations under the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) and Koreans in different parts of Japan and members of civic organizations of Japan are carrying on their solidarity actions demanding the Japanese government retract its measure for discriminating against the Korean schools.

Officials of the Osaka Headquarters of Chongryon, students of Korean schools and their parents and citizens of Japan affiliated to the society for supporting the Korean schools scattered leaflets at major stations in Osaka and conducted street information service on April 8.

Declaring that they would not stop the struggle till the Korean schools are included in the "tuition-free program", the protesters called upon Japanese citizens to positively join in the actions to force the government to retract the unreasonable discriminating measure.

On the same day, those concerned of the Educational Society of Kobe Korean High School and members of "For Peace through Dialogue! the Kobe Network for Japan-DPRK relations", a Japanese organization, visited the Hall of Members of the House of Representatives and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan and urged them to roll back the policy of discrimination against the Korean schools.

Noting that excluding the Korean schools from the "tuition-free program for senior high schools" means discrimination against the Korean students, they called for carrying on their actions demanding the Japanese government retract its unreasonable measure to discriminate against the Korean schools. Then they handed to them written requests addressed to the Democratic Party of Japan and the minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in demand of the drop of the above-said policy of discrimination.

On April 2, officials of the Kawanishi Chapter of Chongryon, the Hyogo Prefectural Headquarters of the Women's Union and the Kobe Korean High School met the leader of the Social-Democratic Party of Japan, requesting him to cooperate in the efforts to include the Korean schools in the "tuition-free program" at an early date.

That day, a meeting took place in protest against the discriminative measure against the Korean schools with Koreans in Japan and Japanese citizens in Nara Prefecture attending.

The Tochigi Prefectural Headquarters of Chongryon got in touch with Dietmen, members of local self-governing bodies, regional friendly organizations, public organizations and trade unions, requesting them to help in the actions demanding the Japanese government roll back the above-mentioned policy of discrimination from late February through March.

The Tochigi Prefectural Women's Society for Solidarity with the Korean Women and others sent written requests to the Japanese prime minister and the above-said minister of Japan urging them not to exclude the Korean schools from the "tuition-free program".
