Support to Korean Schools in Japan Called for
Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- An emergency rally of mothers in Osaka calling for support to the Korean schools was held in Osaka of Japan on March 30 under the co-sponsorship of the Osaka Prefectural Headquarters of the Korean Democratic Women's Union in Japan and the Liaison Council of Mothers in Osaka Prefecture.

Ko Ryon Ok, chairperson of the headquarters, made an address at the rally, which was followed by a report of Ryu Yong Hye, chairperson of the council.

They recalled that members of the societies of mothers for Korean schools, parents of students in different parts of Japan, officials of the women's union and other Korean women have conducted such campaigns as press conference, street information activities and rally for consecutive days to denounce the Japanese government for its scheme to exclude Korean schools from the tuition waiver program for senior high schools.

The enforcement of the policy of supporting Korean schools depends on how the Korean residents in Japan are struggling, they said, calling upon all mothers to dynamically turn out in the sacred movement for the future of the children of compatriots and defending and development of the national education.

Then speeches were made by representatives of parents of students of Korean schools and representatives of Japan's civic organizations and organizations for supporting Korean schools.

The speakers condemned the Japanese government's discrimination against Korean schools as not only a violation of the law on the principle of equality but also an encroachment upon the right to national education.

Read out at the rally was a written request addressed to the prime minister and the minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan on behalf of the said council.
