Japan's Discrimination against Korean Schools Assailed
Pyongyang, April 5 (KCNA) -- Japan is now becoming evermore undisguised in its moves to exclude only the Korean schools under the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) from the tuition-free program for senior high schools. It is a product of the national chauvinist policy peculiar to Japan and its very old vicious hostile policy towards the DPRK as it is another base and premeditated action of the Japanese reactionaries to violate the democratic national rights of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan.

Rodong Sinmun Monday observes this in a signed article.

It continues:

The above-said issue is not a simple financial matter as to whether the Japanese authorities provide a petty amount of money to the Korean schools or not.

The Korean students in Japan are the descendants of those Koreans who were forcibly taken to Japan by the Japanese imperialists in the past and their schools are the legitimate institutions for national education operated by Chongryon with the permission of the Japanese government. It is, therefore, natural for the Korean schools in Japan to be granted an equal right with the Japanese ones and any discrimination against the national education of Chongryon is intolerable in the light of international law.

In a word, Japan's recent discriminative measure amounts to a serious human rights abuse and inhumanitarian action quite contrary to the call for ensuring human rights and humanitarianism.

It once again brought to light that Japan is a mean and brazenfaced country lost to conscience and morality.

Japan would be well advised to pay heed to the pubic accusation and condemnation at home and abroad and prudently and properly settle the above-said issue.

If the Japanese authorities persistently pursue national discrimination and an inhumanitarian policy in disregard of the just demand of the Korean people and the international community, they will not be able to escape bitterer international rebuff and criticism.
