Buddhist Masses Held to Commemorate Nirvana Day
Pyongyang, March 30 (KCNA) -- Masses for commemorating Nirvana Day, 2554 Buddhist Era were held at temples in the northern half of the Republic on Tuesday.

Present there were office-bearers of the Central Committee of the Buddhist Federation of Korea and its provincial, city and county committees, priests and monks of temples and believers.

Rituals for commemorating Nirvana Day were made to be followed by sermons and speeches.

The speakers said that they are commemorating the day at a time when all the people of the country are out in a high-pitched drive for a great revolutionary surge on all fronts of socialist construction true to the joint editorial for this year, stressing the need for the Buddhists across the country to make tangible contributions to the building of a thriving nation.

They called on the Koreans at home and abroad to unite close under the uplifted banner of "By our nation itself" this significant year marking the 10th anniversary of the June 15 joint declaration, the 30th anniversary of the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo and the 65th anniversary of Korea's liberation and positively turn out in the practical actions for improving the north-south relations and opening up a decisive phase in national reunification.
