National Discrimination Blasted in Japan
Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- A mothers' emergency meeting took place in Tokyo on March 16 to condemn the Japanese authorities' unreasonable policy of discrimination against the Korean schools in Japan. It was sponsored by the Central Liaison Council of the Society of Mothers of Korean Students in Japan.

Present there were officials of the Union of Democratic Korean Women in Japan, members of societies of mothers of Korean students in different part of Japan and Japanese figures.

Kang Chu Ryon, chairwoman of the Union Central Standing Committee, said at the meeting that the union and mothers would never tolerate the Japanese government's action to discriminate against the Korean schools under the groundless pretext and force the Korean children to fall victim to it.

Declaring that with no far-fetched assertion can the government obliterate the inviolable national education of Koreans, she called upon all the Korean women to launch a dynamic struggle to protect their children's seats of learning and their rights to the last.

The reporter and speakers at the meeting branded the action of the Japanese authorities as politically motivated suppression aimed at stoking hostility toward the DPRK in the Japanese society and using the above-said education for meeting their unreasonable purpose.

They urged the Japanese government to include without fail the Korean schools in Japan in the tuition-free program for senior high schools slated to take effect from April this year.

Japanese figures, addressing the meeting, stated that the government's action to exclude the Korean schools from the said program is a human rights abuse and national discrimination.

Noting that the students of the Korean schools should be granted an equal treatment with those of Japanese schools, they demanded the Japanese government duly guarantee the Korean students the right to learning.

A letter of request to the Japanese Prime Minister was adopted at the meeting.

At the end of the meeting its participants conducted information service at main railway stations in Tokyo.
