Discrimination against Korean Schools in Japan Flailed
Pyongyang, March 11 (KCNA) -- The Society of Influential Lawyers Thinking of the Issue of Foreign and National Schools of Japan presented a written request to the prime minister and the minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology on March 5 urging them to grant all students equal rights to learning and not to discriminate against Korean schools.

The proposal to exclude Korean schools from the list of state assistance to senior high schools raises lots of legal problems, the request said, asserting that the discrimination against the Korean schools is a serious abuse of rights of their students.

Lawyer Yoshiharu Yoshimine, when interviewed at the ministry that day, noted that it is wrong to exclude the Korean schools from the state assistance in view of the Japanese Constitution and the international treaty.

On March 2, 13 teachers of Kyoto University including Honorary Prof. Masaaki Ueta jointly thrust a letter of request to the prime minister and the minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology requesting them not to exclude the Korean schools in Japan from the list of state assistance and honor election commitments.

Criticizing the stance of linking the issue of assistance to the Korean schools in Japan with the issue of relations with the DPRK, the letter noted that such attitude is just like jumbling politics and diplomacy with education.
