Pyongyang, March 8 (KCNA) -- The women of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea are significantly celebrating the centenary of the International Women's Day, March 8.

Under the loving care of President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il, peerlessly great men, lots of women have grown to be heroines in the country.

Following the spirit of heroic struggle displayed by the anti-Japanese women fighters, Jo Ok Hui, Thae Son Hui, An Yong Ae, Ri Su Dok and many other women rendered distinguished military services in the Fatherland Liberation War to win the title of Hero of the Republic.

Quite a few heroines were also produced in the periods of socialist construction and the second grand advance of Chollima with Ri Sin Ja, Kil Hwak Sil, Jong Song Ok, Hyon Yong Ra and Pak Ok Hui as models.

Scores of women have become heroines in the country in the new century alone.

Among them are heroic mothers such as So Hye Suk and Ri Hui Sun and those who distinguished themselves in education, science, literature and the arts and sports.

The Korean women are leading a worthwhile life with due status in society thanks to Kim Jong Il, who bestows all benefits on them.
