Japanese Authorities' Discriminate Education Policy Assailed
Pyongyang, March 3 (KCNA) -- Japan should handle the issue of assistance to the Korean schools in Japan with seriousness and impartiality in order to prevent the situation from developing into extremity, Rodong Sinmun warns in a signed commentary on Wednesday.

Some days ago, the "minister in charge of abduction issue" of Japan asked the minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to exclude the Korean schools in Japan from the list of assistance for senior high schools, the commentary notes, and goes on:.

It is mean and dastardly demeanor of those steeped in hostility towards the DPRK and national chauvinism to the marrow of their bones to write off the Korean schools from the list of government assistance.

The Korean schools in Japan should be accorded government assistance in view of the contents of a bill and the purport of the Japanese government's assistance for those schools.

The Japanese reactionaries' moves are tantamount to forcing heavy burden of tuition upon the Korean students in Japan. They are also reckless violation of national education little short of depriving the Korean students of their rights to learn and putting the existence of the schools of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) at peril.

It is a wanton violation of international law for the Japanese authorities to take such discriminative and humiliating measure for the Korean students in Japan despite their lip-service for "equality" and "defense of human rights".

All the more nonsensical is the Japanese reactionaries' talk that they are not sure whether the state's spending of taxes for the Korean schools in Japan would be understandable to the Japanese. The Koreans in Japan are paying the same amount of taxes as the Japanese. Japan tried to collect from the Koreans in Japan even one more penny, much less exempting them from any tax item.

The Japanese reactionaries' persistent pursuance of the policy of discriminating and looking down upon Koreans despite the just demand of the Korean people and Chongryon would bring them more hatred from all people and stern judgment by history.

It is not beneficial for Japan to drive the DPRK-Japan relations into a crisis by pursuing the national discrimination policy.

We will closely watch the future behavior of Japan.
