Illustrated Book of Natural Monuments Issued
Pyongyang, March 2 (KCNA) -- The Korean Cultural Preservation Agency has published "Illustrated Book of Korean Natural Monuments" (vol. 3).

Before compiling the book researchers of the agency revalued the natural monuments throughout the country and renewed their registration while finding out more animals and plants that are of great academic significance.

Through a nationwide survey they acquired the growing condition of natural monuments, actual situation of their protection and their geographical location and distribution and discovered their biological features. They also placed some animals and plants on the list of natural monuments.

The first two volumes deal with 266 plants in total and the third with 97 animals.

The third volume is divided into parts of vertebrates and invertebrates. It also deals with the newly registered animals such as char in Lake Chon (Salvelinus malma m. chonjiensis), Unio in the Taedong River, Maengsan otter and Rana coreana in Mt. Kuwol.

To promote the readers' understanding the book gives the names of plants and animals in five languages along with an illustration of each natural monument.

The book will help the readers have a better knowledge of natural monuments and contribute to protecting and propagating the national treasures.
