Modernization Moves Ahead in Light Industry
Pyongyang, February 24 (KCNA) -- Light industry factories and enterprises of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea have directed efforts to updating production processes, developing new products and boosting output.

The Pyongyang Textile Mill has introduced an integrated computer-controlled system in the combined dyeing and silk-spinning shops and added to the variety of cloth. The Kusong and other textile mills across the country have sharply increased the production of suit materials and towels.

The Songyo Knitted Goods Factory, the Pyongyang Children's Knitted Goods Factory and the Pyongyang Socks Factory are furnished with modern equipment to mass-produce underclothes, shirts, socks and other knitwear of various models and colors.

An annual capacity of pressing several million pairs of soles has newly been created and production processes have been streamlined at footwear factories to diversify the type and sort of footwear and raise their output.

The Pyongyang Textile Machine Factory has made a new kind of cog belt electromotive flexible loom while the Sinuiju Spinning Machine Factory has applied the CNC technology to profiler.

Combined foodstuff factories have been built on a modern basis in each province to produce foodstuffs including tasty and nutritive confectionary with raw materials available in their areas.

The Sinuiju Cosmetics Factory has built a soap powder production process and the Tobacco Complex has converted the conic gear cutting machine into a CNC multi-functional machine.
