Tradition of Great Upsurge Carried Forward
Pyongyang, February 19 (KCNA) -- The Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex, a gigantic metallurgical industry base in the northern part of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, is taking the lead in a new great revolutionary upsurge with its blast, sintering, heating and electric furnaces operating at full capacity.

After sending a letter representing their patriotic zeal to all other working people across the country the workers of the complex overfulfilled their January plan by 8.1 percent in total output value, 1.5 percent in pig iron production, 1.6 percent in steel production and 3 percent in rolled steel production.

The Korean workers have effected fresh upsurges at each stage of socialist construction, exciting the world people's admiration.

In the flame of the great Chollima upsurge in the 1950s the workers of the then Kangson Steel Plant produced 120,000 tons of steel from a blooming mill with 60,000-ton capacity and those of the then Kim Chaek Iron Works 270,000 tons of pig iron from a blast furnace with 190,000-ton capacity.

The workers of the then Kiyang Farm Machine Factory succeeded in making a tractor in some 30 days and those of the then Tokchon Garage a lorry in 40 days to prove the Koreans' true merits.

A heyday of the era of the Workers' Party was brought about in the 1970s and 1980s, characterized by the spirit of Chollima spurred on by the speed campaign, and solid foundations for the building of a thriving nation were laid in the period of the "Arduous March", forced march on the strength of the Kanggye spirit, Songgang torch and Ranam torch.

General Secretary Kim Jong Il, who visited the Chollima Steel Complex in December 2008, appreciated its workers for the building of a UHP electric arc furnace in a matter of months and encouraged them to advance in the van of a fresh upsurge again at the speed of Chollima.

In carrying forward the tradition of great upsurge, the Korean people have created the Huichon speed, a new Chollima speed.
