US Accused of Disturbing Peace
Pyongyang, February 19 (KCNA) -- The U.S. vice-president recently announced the government's policy on increasing the budget for nuclear weapons, stressing the need to secure trustworthy nuclear deterrent while talking about "the reduction of nukes". Timing to coincide with this, the U.S. Department of Defense test-fired an interceptor missile.

Rodong Sinmun Friday observes in a signed commentary in this regard:

This is a blatant challenge to the desire of mankind for peace and a criminal act of gravely threatening and disturbing world peace and security.

Laying bare the ulterior aim sought by the U.S. in bolstering up the nuclear forces and pushing ahead with the plan for deploying the missile defense(MD) system , the factors of ceaselessly escalating the worldwide arms race and military confrontation, the commentary goes on:

By putting these scenarios into practice the U.S. seeks to destroy the global strategic structure and contain the big powers it regards as potential "rivals" in a bid to carry out its strategy for dominating a uni-polar world. Another aim sought by it is to put different countries under its "nuclear umbrella" and the MD so as to reduce them to its allies under its "protection" and servants for aggression. By implementing the above-said scenarios the U.S. also seeks to put spurs to the worldwide arms race and get its potential "rivals" locked in it in a bid to throw them into an economic crisis and chaos. A more sinister aim sought by the U.S. is to threaten the whole world with nukes and missiles and mount a preemptive attack on any target any time.

The Korean Peninsula is fraught with the biggest danger of a new arms race and war at present. Nevertheless, the U.S. is persisting in its moves to deploy the MD targeted against the DPRK.

Noting that the U.S. reckless action will more adversely affect the process for ensuring peace in the peninsula and the rest of the world, the commentary warns that it will be wholly accountable for the ensuing serious consequences.
