Russian Ambassador Gives Reception
Pyongyang, February 8 (KCNA) -- Russian Ambassador to the DPRK Valery Sukhinin arranged a reception Monday on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the conclusion of the treaty of friendship, good neighborliness and cooperation between the DPRK and the Russian Federation.

Present there on invitation were Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, Kung Sok Ung, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, O Ryong Chol, vice-minister of Foreign Trade, Hong Son Ok, vice-chairwoman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries who doubles as chairwoman of the DPRK-Russia Friendship Association, and officials concerned.

The Russian ambassador said in his speech that a basic document for the development of Russia-DPRK relations was concluded to suit the new conditions ten years ago. This has greatly contributed to boosting the bilateral friendly relations, he added.

He recalled that multifaceted contacts and exchange have been brisk between Russia and the DPRK and the two countries have cooperated with each other in the international arena, too.

He stressed that Russian President Medvedev and Chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK Kim Jong Il have paid deep attention to the development of the bilateral relations.

Yang Hyong Sop, addressing the reception, referred to the fact that Kim Jong Il enjoyed the performance of opera "Evgeni Onegin" together with the Russian ambassador to the DPRK and diplomats of his embassy. This indicates that the bilateral relations are developing on a high stage, he added.

He expressed conviction that these relations would further develop on the principle of respect for sovereignty, equality and mutual benefit in the spirit of the agreed joint documents including the inter-state treaty.

A reception was also given at the Russian Consulate General in Chongjin on the same day on this occasion.
