DPRK FM Statement Hailed in DR Congo
Pyongyang, February 2 (KCNA) -- The Genuine Lumumbist Patriotic Party, the People's Rally for Socialism, the National Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea and the Working Citizens' Association of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Democratic Congo-Korea Friendship and Solidarity Association issued a joint statement on Jan. 26 in support of the DPRK Foreign Ministry's statement.

The DPRK has made every possible effort to terminate a ceasefire state and establish a lasting peace mechanism on the Korean Peninsula over the past years, the joint statement noted, and went on:

Nevertheless, such sincere efforts bore no fruit owing to the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK every time.

The process of the six-party talks, which ended in repeated frustration and failure, goes to prove that any problem can never be solved without building of confidence between parties concerned.

We recognize that the conclusion of a peace treaty is an urgent task to terminate the hostile relations and build confidence between the DPRK and the U.S. and this will be helpful to advancing the process of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

We demand that the U.S. immediately accept the proposal of the DPRK and come out to the talks for replacing the Armistice Agreement with a peace treaty.

We urge the south Korean authorities to respect the June 15 joint declaration and drop their wrong attitude towards the inter-Korean relations.

We call upon the peace-loving people of the world to fully support the Korean people's just struggle for durable peace on the peninsula.
