US Urged to Drop Its Cold War-Style Way of Thinking

Pyongyang, February 1 (KCNA) -- The assistant secretary of the U.S. State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs recently blustered that the United States has "maintained security and stability" in the East Asia-Pacific region for the last half a century and "the military forces" forward deployed in the Asia-Pacific region "should be continuously kept to defend peace and stability". And he claimed that "there can be no error in the fixed resolution to fulfill the commitment to defense", asserting that the U.S. will actively cooperate with south Korea "to modernize the military alliance."

Rodong Sinmun Monday observes in a signed commentary in this regard:

This is a revelation of the U.S. Cold War-style way of thinking which turns away from the issues of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula and ensuring peace there as it brought to light the U.S. sinister intention for permanent military presence in the Asia-Pacific region including south Korea and its vicinity and invasion of the DPRK.

It was entirely thanks to the peace-loving DPRK's persevering efforts that a war has been averted and peace been preserved on the Korean Peninsula where the situation has constantly been pushed to the brink of a war.

The U.S. talk about "necessity" of its forces' presence in the Asia-Pacific region and "modernization of military alliance" with south Korea is nothing but an attempt to stifle the DPRK by force and hold unchallenged military hegemony in the region.

It is the U.S. bellicose forces' attempt for aggression to ignite a new Korean war with the method of preemptive strike by mobilizing the U.S. modern task forces.

The "fulfillment of the commitment to defense" and the "keeping of the U.S. forces" touted by the U.S. clearly prove once again that it seeks to retain edge of strength and put into practice its strategy for preemptive attack at any cost.

The U.S. would be well advised to coolly face up to the reality, dismantle the Cold War structure created by it in Northeast Asia as soon as possible and stop the reckless military rackets.
