Officials Enjoy Opera "Evgeni Onegin"
Pyongyang, February 1 (KCNA) -- A trial performance of Opera "Evgeni Onegin" was given at the music hall of Pyongyang Kim Won Gyun Conservatory on Sunday.

Among the audience were senior party and state officials, officials of ministries and national institutions and creators, artistes, journalists and editors in the fields of culture and arts and media.

This opera of Russia, which was performed in the presence of President Kim Il Sung in 1958, has been reproduced by the conservatory as required by the new century.

The opera, based on a verse novel written by Pushkin, a famous Russian poet, and composed by Tchaikovsky, exposes through the portrayal of hero of the opera Evgeni Onegin the corrupt life of the aristocratic class and the injustice of the Russian feudal society that reduced to good-for-nothing and spoiled the young people who should have done a lot of good work for the country.

The first trial performance of the opera, which received help from Russian experts, was directed by Gus Anatoli Nikitovich, chief conductor of the State Academic Igor Moiseyev Dance Company of Russia.
