Durable Peace in Korea Called for in S. Korea
Pyongyang, January 18 (KCNA) -- The People for Achieving Peace and Reunification of south Korea and other organizations for peace and reunification movement against war staged an "action for independent reunification and peace" outside the U.S. embassy in Seoul on January 12.

The organizations declared that they would rename the anti-U.S. solidarity meeting which had been held so far outside the U.S. embassy every month, the latest being the 123rd meeting, an "action for independent reunification and peace" and carry it on this year.

They in a written protest to the U.S. embassy demanded the U.S. positively respond to the proposal of the DPRK for an early start of the talks for replacing the Armistice Agreement by a peace treaty.

Terming the above-said proposal a very just one for peace, security and denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, they urged the U.S. to come out for the talks for concluding the peace treaty without delay.

Noting that the conclusion of the treaty is a matter the solution of which brooks no further delay, they urged the U.S. to immediately lift sanctions against the DPRK and strive to build a lasting peace-keeping regime on the Korean Peninsula.

The Headquarters of the Movement for the Withdrawal of the U.S. Forces in south Korea issued a statement on January 11 in support of the DPRK proposal for concluding a peace treaty. If the U.S. truly wishes for peace and denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, it should respond to the above-said proposal at once, it urged.
