Struggle for Settlement of Ryongsan Tragedy Urged
Pyongyang, January 14 (KCNA) -- A funeral service for Ryongsan evacuees brutally killed by the puppet police was held at the Seoul Station plaza in south Korea on Jan. 9.

Present there were the "Committee for All-People Funeral Service for Popular Martyrs, Evacuees Killed in Ryongsan Tragedy", the South Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration, bereaved families, religionists, representatives of opposition parties and citizens from all walks of life, more than 5,000 all told.

The participants deplored that it is nearly one year since evacuees in Ryongsan were mercilessly killed due to the authorities' murderous "redevelopment" policy and fascist suppression, but it has not yet been made to punish the chief culprit for the killing and probe the truth about it.

They charged that even after the Ryongsan tragedy the tyrannical "government" has engaged itself in the repressive rule such as crackdown upon the Ssangyong Motors Trade Union, the Government Employees' Union and the Teachers Union, violation of freedom of speech, enforcement of "readjustment of four large rivers", etc.

They strongly demanded that the authorities make a sincere apology for the killing, though belatedly, and take fundamental measures to prevent recurrence of such tragedy.

They called for fighting it out for an end to the authorities' unpopular "redevelopment" policy and settlement of the Ryongsan tragedy, cherishing the outcry of the victims.
