Chongryon Supports Joint New Year Editorial
Pyongyang, January 12 (KCNA) -- A meeting was held by officials of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) in Tokyo on Jan. 9 in support of the joint New Year editorial of the DPRK.

Present there were Ho Jong Man, chief vice-chairman of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee, its vice-chairmen and officials of Chongryon.

Ho Jong Man said in his report that the basic spirit of the joint New Year editorial is to wage a general offensive for improving the people's standard of living to make this year a prosperous one full of people's happiness.

The year 2010 will shine as a year of great changes to be specially recorded in the history of building a thriving nation in which the people's standard of living will be radically improved, a year of great prosperity in which people will enjoy greater happiness and a year of great victory which will go down in the history of the nation.

The main orientation of Chongryon's work this year is to greet the 22nd Congress of Chongryon as one of victory and unity, inheritance and innovation and effect a decisive turn in cementing the overall foundation for ushering in a new heyday in the movement of the Koreans in Japan in the new century, he noted, and continued:

This year the officials of Chongryon will make a tangible contribution to the work for achieving the country's reunification in the idea of "By our nation itself" and the work for developing the nation's science and technology and agriculture and improving the people's standard of living, deeply aware of the patriotic duty they assumed for the country and nation.

He declared that they would struggle to get the Japanese authorities roll back their hostile policy towards the DPRK and lift the unreasonable sanctions like the ban on the portcall of the ship "Mangyongbong 92" and make a positive contribution to boosting the friendship and exchange between the two peoples of the DPRK and Japan.

Speeches were made there.

A letter to General Secretary Kim Jong Il was adopted at the meeting.
