New Species of Silverfish Bred
Pyongyang, January 7 (KCNA) -- The Research Institute of Fish Farming under the State Academy of Sciences of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has bred a good species of silverfish.

The fish, growing fast in natural water, neither degenerates nor hybridizes, unaffected by crossing with goldfish or carp.

It is not fastidious about temperature and quality of water and others but omnivorous and viable so that it can be raised in any places with fresh water.

It multiplies rapidly and its fries are mostly female. Of them male fries account for 0.1-0.2 percent only. The silverfish is bigger, heavier and tastier than goldfish.

In particular, it contains a fair amount of various vitamins, essential amino acids, unsaturated fat acids and other nutritive elements.

The institute has already multiplied the fish and sent a great number of fries to many fish farms, streams and rivers including the Taedong River.
