Pyongyang, January 5 (KCNA) -- Entering the new year Juche 99 (2010) after spending a year of great victory, the entire people of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea have turned out to carry through the important tasks set forth in the joint New Year editorial of the country's leading newspapers.

The working people in the sectors of light industry and agriculture, main fronts in improving the people's living standard, have gained achievements from the beginning of the year in hearty response to the joint editorial calling for bringing about a radical turn in the people's standard of living by accelerating the development of light industry and agriculture once again this year that marks the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea.

The workers of the Pyongyang Cornstarch Factory, Pyongyang Textile Mill, Wonsan Shoes Factory, Sinuiju Cosmetics Factory and other light industry factories are directing much effort to boosting the production of tasty and highly nutritive foodstuffs and various kinds of daily necessities to supply them to people.

The agricultural workers are vigorously pushing ahead with preparations for this year's farming including production of organic fertilizer and its transportation to fields in order to increase the fertility of soil.

Stockbreeding, fish farming and fruit production bases are conducting a scrupulous organizational and political work for establishing a Juche-oriented breeding system and embodying the principle of profitability for the purpose of making a tangible contribution to improving the people's living.

The workers in charge of the four vanguard sectors of the national economy, with a firm view that the development of light industry and agriculture depends on that of heavy industry, are making big strides in production and transportation.

The Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex, a leading steel producer of the country, made the first tapping of the year successful and the Musan Mining Complex blew up 150,000 cubic meter earth on the first day of the year, thus adding to the conviction and optimism of the service personnel and people of the country.

Reports of such achievements have also come from the Pyongyang Thermal-power Complex, the Wonsan Youth Power Station and other power stations across the country and coal-industry and rail-transport sectors from the outset of the year.

Meanwhile, the builders of the Huichon Power Station are performing feats in the project in the spirit of having created "Huichon Speed", a new Chollima speed.
