Present there were Kim Yong Il, Choe Thae Bok and Yang Hyong Sop, leading officials of ministries, national institutions and working people's organizations and more than 100,000 citizens from all walks of life.

Choe Yong Rim, chief secretary of the Pyongyang City Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, said in his report at the rally that all the Party members and other working people in the capital city of Pyongyang should concentrate all efforts on improving the people's standard of living under the slogan "Bring about a radical turn in the people's standard of living by accelerating the development of light industry and agriculture once again this year that marks the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea!" and thus successfully translate the noble intention of the WPK into reality.

Light-industrial factories should realize on a high level the work for putting their production processes on a modern and IT basis and turn out in a larger quantity various kinds of quality consumer goods favored by the public, urged the reporter.

He underlined the need to sharply raise the per-hectare yield of grain by thoroughly implementing the Party's policy of agricultural revolution, increase the capacities of up-to-date stockbreeding, fish farming and fruit production bases to enable the people to benefit from them as early as possible and successfully enforce the popular policies of the socialist state and the benevolent measures of the WPK.

He further said:

Basic industry sectors, vanguard sectors of the national economy should supply fully and in time electricity, coal and raw and other materials needed for the economic development and the improvement of the standard of people's living in the capital city, dynamically push forward the construction of 100,000 flats in Pyongyang and bring about innovations in city management.

The reporter also stressed the need to bring about a turn in science and technology, education and literary and art work and firmly establish the trait of giving priority to military affairs, preferentially supply everything necessary for the defence industry and sincerely aid the KPA.

Delegates of different social strata in their speeches called upon all the officials, Party members and other working people to become vanguard fighters devotedly defending their leader and performers of feats and ardent patriots who demonstrate the heroic spirit and mettle of the Koreans by holding supremacy in the world.

Then there was a mass demonstration at the end of the rally.
