Pyongyang Greets New Year
Pyongyang, January 1 (KCNA) -- On the morning of the New Year, Juche 99 (2010) many servicepersons and people have visited the Kumsusan Memorial Palace, the sacred temple of Juche, to pay homage to President Kim Il Sung, the eternal sun of the humankind and father of socialist Korea.

Statues of the President in different parts of the country have been visited by endless streams of people with floral baskets, bouquets and flowers in their hands.

In Pyongyang a great number of servicepersons, people of all social strata, youth and schoolchildren have climbed Mansu Hill where his statue is standing. Reflected on their faces are a pride of having recorded the last year in the history of the country as a wonderful year when the dreams of the people have come true and a firm resolution to bring the dignity and might of Songun Korea into full play in the new year marking the 65th anniversary of the glorious Workers' Party of Korea, thus promoting the historical cause of the nation.

Seen here and there in streets and residential quarters in the capital, decked in festive attire, are placards reading "New Year's greetings to the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il", posters with letters "New Year Juche 99 (2010)", paintings and national and red flags.

Parks and recreation grounds have been full with holiday-makers and catering facilities decorated in a unique way have served various kinds of dishes.

Public service centers including Okryu Restaurant have been crowded with people and all houses permeated with a festival atmosphere, taking such national dishes as rice cake, noodle, mung-bean pancake and playing such national amusement games as Korean chess and yut and others.

The Korean army and people are full of resolution to make a tangible contribution this year, too, to the accomplishment of the revolutionary cause of Juche started by President Kim Il Sung and the building of a great, prosperous and powerful nation under the Songun-based revolutionary leadership of Kim Jong Il.
