Kim Yong Nam Greets Chairman of Chongryon
Pyongyang, January 1 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, on Friday sent a message of greetings to So Man Sul, chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), on the New Year, Juche 99 (2010).

Kim Yong Nam said in the message that last year Chongryon made a great contribution to the struggle for the independent reunification and the prosperity of the country under the difficult situation where reactionaries at home and abroad resorted to ceaseless moves and dynamically conducted external activities to deepen the friendship with the Japanese people.

Juche 99 (2010) marking the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the country and the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea is a historic year of weighty significance in completing the building of a thriving nation and a year of a decisive turning point in which the Koreans in Japan will grandly mark the 55th anniversary of the formation of Chongryon, a patriotic legacy of President Kim Il Sung, decorate its 22nd congress as a congress of victory and unity and that of inheritance and innovations and firmly build up an overall foundation for ushering in a new heyday of the movement of the Koreans in Japan in the new century, the message said, and went on:

This year Chongryon and Koreans in Japan should make a tangible contribution to bringing earlier the day of the country's reunification under the uplifted banner of "By our nation itself", opening the gate to a thriving socialist nation and positively contribute to developing the friendship and exchange between the peoples of the DPRK and Japan on the basis of the spirit of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration.

The message expressed belief that Chongryon and Koreans in Japan would achieve signal successes in the patriotic work in the new year by giving full play to the great mental power, cherishing conviction and optimism about the victory in the revolutionary cause of Juche and the patriotic cause of Chongryon.
