Pyongyang, December 29 (KCNA) -- Tonguibogam, a book of Koryo medicine written by Ho Jun in 1610 has widely been used in modern medical treatment in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

The 25-volume book consists of contents, internal and external medicine, various diseases, decoctions, acupuncture and moxibustion.

The part of internal medicine deals with physiological functions of the bowels and their diseases, while the part of external medicine gives information about external diseases and nose, ear, throat and eye diseases.

Contained in the part of various diseases are methods of medical examination, causes of diseases, symptoms, therapies and prescriptions of some internal diseases and data concerning gynecology and paediatrics.

The decoction part provides effects, indications and picking and processing methods of more than 1 400 species of Koryo medicines together with their growing districts. The acupuncture and moxibustion part gives their methods and regions for their applications as well as indications.

From olden times, such books of Koryo medicine as Tonguibogam have been used in curing diseases and promoting health in Korea.

Along with the development of medical science and technology, shortcomings and limitations of modern medical treatment have been revealed bit by bit and excellent treatment methods of traditional medicine introduced, with Koryo medicine drawing a great attention.

There is the Academy of Koryo Medicine in the DPRK and there are Koryo medical treatment departments at provincial, city and county hospitals.

They treat patients with cupping, acupuncture, moxibustion, finger-pressure and other methods.

In recent years new effective therapies and means of Koryo medicine have been developed to cure such obstinate diseases as spontaneous gangrene, bradyacusia and post poliomyelitis paralysis.
