Signature Campaign Launched by South Korean Council
Pyongyang, December 29 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Council for Solution of the Volunteers' Corps issued a statement on Dec. 24 calling for the launch of a signature campaign for settling the issue of "comfort women" for the Imperial Japanese Army.

The statement referred to the positive activities conducted by the organization in demand of a probe into the truth behind the above-said crime and its settlement.

It recalled that international organizations have urged the Japanese government more than once to fulfill its responsibility after branding the crimes related to "comfort women" for the Imperial Japanese Army as grave crimes against humanity and war crimes and the parliaments in different countries including the U.S. passed resolutions calling for prompt legal solution to the sexual abuses.

Nevertheless, the Japanese government has still evaded its responsibility, it pointed out.

The issue of "comfort women" for the Imperial Japanese Army is an example of the gravest abuses of rights of women, the statement noted, urging the Japanese government to make official apology and reparation for the crimes related to sexual slavery and enact a law on preventing the recurrence of similar crimes, etc. at an early date.

The south Korean authorities had better drop their servility to Japan and honestly opt for settling the above-said issue, it held.

The organization will conduct a 500,000 men-signature campaign till March next year in demand of the proper settlement of the said issue, it stated, calling on the people from all walks of life in south Korea to positively respond to it.
