DPRK Contribute to Efforts for UN Millennium Development Target
Pyongyang, December 16 (KCNA) -- The DPRK government will further strengthen the friendly and cooperative relations with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and all its member nations in the consistent idea of foreign policy--independence, peace and friendship--and make positive contribution to the efforts of international community for hitting the UN millennium development target.

The head of the DPRK delegation declared this at the 13th UNIDO General Conference on Dec. 9.

Referring to the achievements made by the organization in the period under review, he said that the draft plan and budget for 2010-2011, to be adopted at the current conference, has been worked out to ensure the effectiveness and economics for the UNIDO's activities even under the difficult financial conditions by the worldwide financial and economic crisis and, at the same time, orient the technological cooperation programme toward attaining the UN millennium development target.

He underlined the need for the organization to attach priority to the technical cooperation for developing countries and ensure the effectiveness of cooperation while steadily pushing ahead with its reforms, direct sustained efforts to the activities for solving such important problems as food crisis, climate change and energy through provision of its effective assistance to the developing countries in strengthening their agriculture and industry and trading capabilities and developing renewable energy and boost the South-South cooperation.

Sure guarantee has been provided at present to ensure durable peace on the Korean Peninsula, he said, adding that this helps the DPRK concentrate all its efforts on building an economic power.
