It is a modern and comprehensive base for creating all kinds of art. It has not only creative groups but also units for producing and supplying art equipment and materials.

It is unthinkable apart from the wise guidance of the peerlessly great men that the studio has registered a brilliant development over the last five decades.

President Kim Il Sung saw to it that the sculpture studio, the predecessor of the Mansudae Art Studio, was formed in the historical postwar period when the flame of the great Chollima upsurge flared up and the Statue of Chollima was erected as a monument reflecting the spirit of heroic Korea. After that, he had visited the studio on several occasions to clearly indicate the orientation and ways for building monumental edifices of the times.

The President put forth the Juche-oriented ideas on fine-art and led the efforts to effloresce the Korean fine-art as the popular and revolutionary one, national in form and socialist in content. His exploits will shine long in the history of the Juche-oriented fine-art.

Today the Korean fine-art is in a new heyday of its development under the guidance of Kim Jong Il.

He advanced the idea and theory on describing the leader of the working class, the first of its kind in the history of humankind, and gave minute guidance to the efforts for holding the eternal image of the President in high esteem.

Over the last period, the studio has created portraits, statues and other art pieces carrying the images of the three commanders of Mt. Paektu on a highest level and constructed the Samjiyon Grand Monument, Party Founding Memorial Tower and other grand edifices of the times. It has also produced the Korean painting "Bloody Battles against Japanese Imperialists", large-sized Korean paintings "1994, Tearful Year", "Red Sky Over Lake Chon of Mt. Paektu" and "Mt. Chilbo in Fall" and other works of national treasure and Korean-style jewel pictures.

The studio has also made great successes in the creation of Korean painting, the pride of Korean fine-art, and oil painting, graphic painting, mural painting, embroidery and ceramic work.

The Mansudae Art Studio with a powerful creative force comprising competent People's Artists and Merited Artists is demonstrating fully to the world the Juche-oriented fine-art in the Songun era.
