More Modern Villages Appear in DPRK
Pyongyang, November 6 (KCNA) -- The number of modern rural villages is on the steady increase in the DPRK.

Hundreds of thousands of modern houses have sprung up in the countryside over the last decade, taking the country as a whole. The villages are called ideal socialist ones as they are made up of such houses where electricity is widely used for lighting and heating and methane gas for cooking and a lot of fruit trees grow.

40 cozy new modern houses were built at the foot of Mt. Mira in Migok-ri, Sariwon City. The village is called "apricot village".

Poman-ri is well known to the country as a village good to live in. The appearance of the Hwangjin hot-spring village in the area of Mt. Chilbo has changed beyond recognition.

The Town Cooperative Farm in Sinphyong County is called "Kamsalgu village". Unhung Co-op Farm in Thaechon County is surrounded by forests with the Handre Plain extending far and wide. Villages in Phyongam-ri, Koksan County is proud of apple trees. Undok village in Yangdong-ri, Unpha County is famous for date trees. Manphung village in Ryangdam-ri, Unchon County boasts orchards of fruit trees of various species. All these villages present spectacular scenery in the era of Songun.

An ostrich farm on the outskirts of Pyongyang sets an example of the times in creating woodland and greenery. It is reminiscent of a vast arboretum and a rest home as it has more than 100 corrals and production buildings including meat processing factory and is surrounded by at least 560,000 trees of over 50 species.

There is a thick forest of hundreds of thousands of trees of more than 250 species in the campus of Wonsan University of Agriculture.

At least 25,000 trees of more than 60 species and over 3,000 flower bushes offer spectacular scenery in the compound of the Pyongyang Textile Mill. The bank extending more than 12 kilometers along the beach of the West Sea has turned into a thick woodland covering at least 150 hectares.

Streets in Kaesong City with Gingko trees tinged yellow add to the beauty of the autumnal scenery as a city with long-standing history and culture. Tara vine trees, each fruit weighing 100 g on an average, are found in every part of the city.

During the spring tree planting period alone several hundred million trees are planted throughout the country, bringing the average number of the trees planted by each person every year to 150 or 200. As a result, it is turning into a thick woodland and greenery.
