Participating in the tournament are 16 men's teams and 16 women's teams selected in the regional preliminaries.

The quarterfinals (eight teams) of the male and female football teams which had placed first and second in the group league matches and the semi-finals (top four teams) were held in Kim Il Sung Stadium and Yanggakdo Football Stadium some days ago on the knockout basis.

The male footballers of the Amnokgang Sports Team and female footballers of the April 25 Sports Team drew particular interests of the sports experts and fans in the quarter-finals.

These teams are expected to win the current championships as they had taken the top places in the football tournaments of the Mangyongdae Prize Sports Contest and the DPRK Championships.

The men's football team of the Amnokgang Sports Team and the women's football team of the April 25 Sports Team advanced into the finals after defeating respectively the men's teams of the Sobaeksu Sports Team and the Kigwancha Sports Team and the women's teams of the Wolmido Sports Team and the Amnokgang Sports Team in quarter-finals and the semi-finals.

These teams will compete with the men's eleven of the Sports Team of the Ministry of Light Industry and the women's eleven of the Sobaeksu Sports Team which had proved successful in the previous matches. The finals are expected to be hot.

The finals are due to be held on November 2.
