Pyongyang Musical Instrument Factory
Pyongyang, October 26 (KCNA) -- The Pyongyang Musical Instrument Factory has been founded and developed under the guidance of the peerlessly great men.

In an interview with KCNA Jo Kyu Dok, a manager of the factory, said:

President Kim Il Sung founded the State Musical Instrument Manufacturing Research Institute (then) on October 26, Juche 42 (1953) under the difficult conditions of the postwar rehabilitation and construction and gave important instructions for the production of musical instruments on scores of occasions.

He earmarked precious state fund for providing a solid production base to the factory which had only one belt lathe and some small tools at the time of foundation.

Our factory is now in its new heydays under the warm care of General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

Directing importance to the national musical instruments in the production of musical instruments, he visited the factory several times in 1962 alone to give clear-cut answers to the problems of further developing the traditional national musical instruments in line with the modern aesthetic sense while keeping their unique features and good qualities alive.

Now our factory manufactures not only lots of national musical instruments such as Kayagum, jotae and jangsaenap but also the peculiar national musical instrument "Okryugum".

The technicians and workers of the factory reconstructed it on an expansion basis and manufactured a new type of accordion "Unbangul" with their own efforts by giving a full play to the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance during "Arduous March" and forced march when everything was short.

The "Unbangul" accordion and bayan are popular in foreign countries.
