UN Urged to Remain True to Its Mission
Pyongyang, October 24 (KCNA) -- The United Nations should more satisfactorily perform its mission and role, urges Rodong Sinmun Saturday in a signed article dedicated to the Day of the United Nations.

Noting that the UN has an important task to fulfil for establishing a new fair international order as required by the development of the era in the new century, the article goes on:

The UN should ensure justice, impartiality and equality in its organizational system and activities, not allow any act of trampling upon the UN Charter and raise its authority and properly exercise it.

The reality requires the UN to play a bold and leading and vanguard role in establishing a new international order.

It is the desire of the international community to see the UN Security Council revamped more democratically. It is also necessary for the UN to resettle those issues wrongly handled in the past quite contrary to the purpose and principle of the UN Charter.

This is very important for deepening the trust of the international community in it.

Only when the UN remains true to its Charter and properly performs its mission and role as required by the times and expected by humankind can a lot of international issues be solved, great progress be made in the development of the times and the appearance of the world undergo a remarkable change.

The DPRK has positively participated in activities of the UN, respecting its Charter.

The DPRK as a member state of the UN has sincerely done what it should do, steadily maintaining and expanding the contact and cooperation with the UN. By doing so, the DPRK has contributed to the activities of the UN.

The DPRK will as ever maintain close relations with the member states of the UN, guided by the idea of its foreign policy--independence, peace and friendship--and make positive efforts for building a new independent and peaceful world.
