Undying Feats for Development of Juche-Oriented Education
Pyongyang, October 1 (KCNA) -- A great change is taking place in the efforts for building a great, prosperous and powerful nation in Korea this year, opening a brighter prospect for the development of the Juche-oriented education.

In the annals of the DPRK in which revolutionary changes were effected, the education of Juche also made giant strides forward.

In Juche 36 (1947) when the Korean people over-fulfilled the first national economic plan with their own strength and wisdom, the number of schools and students grew respectively by 40 percent and 30 percent as against the previous year.

World-startling changes took place in the field of education. The DPRK enforced the universal compulsory primary education system for the first time in 1956 when it successfully concluded the postwar rehabilitation and construction, frustrating the sophism of the U.S. imperialists that the DPRK would not stand on its own feet within 100 years, the universal compulsory secondary education system in 1958 when the socialist system was established, the universal 9-year compulsory technical education system in the 1960s when miracles were wrought in Chollima Korea and the universal 11-year free and compulsory education system in the 1970s when a rapid progress was made in the economic construction at the "speed of the 70-day campaign."

This year Juche-oriented education is registering big achievements in its activities through the 150-day campaign for a new great revolutionary upsurge.

A solid foundation for the Juche-oriented education was laid and many successes were made in the training of talented personnel through the working out of teaching program, shows and contests held in the IT and other fields, researches into cutting-edge science, large-scaled construction and reconstruction of schools, improved production and supply of educational instruments, writing of hundreds of kinds of textbooks and reference books, powerful nation-wide assistance to education.

It is entirely thanks to General Secretary Kim Jong Il that more rosy future is promised for the education of the rising generation.

He visited the then Wonsan University of Agriculture while guiding the 150-day campaign on the spot. Then he was greatly pleased to see another powerful education and research centre for raising technical personnel and gave important instructions for the development of education.

His warm love for the generations to come was shown not only to the newly built greenhouse of the university, but also to Sojung Secondary School in Rakwon County and Munchon Secondary School in Munchon City during the 150-day campaign.

The new solid foundation for the development of the Juche-oriented education and all the achievements made in the education and training of revolutionary personnel in the period of 150-day campaign are the fruition of the energetic leadership of Kim Jong Il.
