Dishcloth Gourd Widely Planted in Residential Quarters
Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- Dishcloth gourd has been widely cultivated in the DPRK.

Cucumbers as big as forearm are hanging from dishcloth gourd vines in several hundred square meters of fields around apartments Nos. 5 and 11 in Jungsong-dong, Central District, Pyongyang.

The inhabitants there are tending dishcloth gourd fields with care to carry forward the folk tradition.

The Korean people have cultivated dishcloth gourd around their houses from olden time and used it widely in their life.

Dried and peeled dishcloth gourd was used in washing kitchen containers.

It had been called "chonraksa" and "chonra" in the past in the meaning that it was good for washing kitchen containers.

Its extract, with medicinal value, is raw materials of lotion, perfume and the like.

It is easy to cultivate dishcloth gourd because it is strong against blight and harmful insects.
