The floor jewel mosaic, called "jewel carpet" in the DPRK, strikes the viewers with great admiration.

Especially the subdued depth, vividness and three-dimensional character of the flower pattern have a formative effect unprecedented in the long history of the floor mosaic development.

The floor mosaic, which depicts the various flowers including camellia, broad bellflower and peach blossom closely related with the life of the Korean people with various colors of jewel pieces, gives fresh feelings to people as if they were in a flower bed.

Such floor mosaics are found in the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital, the Changgwang Health Complex, the Mansudae Art Theatre, the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren's Palace and other monumental buildings.

The floor mosaic in the DPRK was switched to the form of multilayer structure floor mosaic in the beginning of the 2000s, which makes it possible to reduce the amount of jewel and to ensure the artistic expression to the full.

The floor mosaic is ever developing as part of the architectural decorative art in the DPRK.
