Xigang Battle, Demonstration of Kim Il Sung's Independent Stand
Pyongyang, September 12 (KCNA) -- The army and people of Korea are looking back upon the immortal feats performed by President Kim Il Sung in leading the Korean revolution to victory on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the victory in the battle of Xigang held during the anti-Japanese armed struggle.

Then the Korean revolution was confronted with a grave situation in which the revolution would be continued or given up halfway owing to the desperate "punitive" offensive of the Japanese imperialists "to finally exterminate" the anti-Japanese armed forces and the aftermath of the expedition to Rehe forced by the "left" adventurists of Comintern.

At that time, the President, who had firmly adhered to the independent stand in the military and political activities from the first days of the anti-Japanese armed struggle, penetrated the adventurousness of the expedition to Rehe with his clairvoyance and took initiative measures to advance the units of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army to the border areas and the homeland, not to Rehe and strike the rear of Japanese imperialism one after another with unique guerrilla tactics.

When some anti-Japanese allied army units suffered hardships in the expedition to Rehe, the units of the KPRA dealt a deadly blow to the Japanese imperialists through several battles in Xigang and other areas, keeping to the Juche-oriented revolutionary line.

A company of the puppet Manchukuo army and police force were deployed in Xigang.

With a determination to surprise the enemy at night, he formed a combat formation which consisted of two storming parties, two interception parties, two covering parties and one disguised party and issued orders to each party.

The zero hour was 11:00 p.m. on September 13, Juche 27 (1938).

The interception parties cut off the telephone line of the enemy before the battle while the disguised party entered the town and occupied the east gate and forts to guarantee the advance of the storming parties.

The covering parties fired by volleys at the west forts to strike terror into the enemy soldiers and the storming parties killed or captured all the enemies.

Under the wise leadership of the President who victoriously held the battle of Xigang, the KPRA units undertook positive operations of harassing the enemy's rear while bringing the national liberation revolution to steady upswing in Mt. Paektu and thus dealt a heavy blow to the Japanese imperialists who attempted to conclude the aggressive war of continent with "blitz tactics" and saved the anti-Japanese allied army units who were undergoing difficulties in the expedition to Rehe.

The victory in the historic Xigang battle was the brilliant victory of the independent stand the President had adhered to consistently in all military actions and activities and a precious fruition of his superb Juche-oriented guerrilla tactics.
