Chinese Fine Art Exhibition Opens
Pyongyang, September 8 (KCNA) -- A Chinese fine art exhibition was opened at the People's Palace of Culture on Monday to celebrate the 61st anniversary of the founding of the DPRK.

Displayed there are more than 90 art works created by well-known painters of China.

Present at the opening ceremony were Jon Yong Jin, vice-chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries who doubles as vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the DPRK-China Friendship Association, officials concerned and working people in the city, the friendship delegation of the China Association for International Friendly Contact led by Vice-President Li Xiaohua and Liu Xiaoming, Chinese ambassador to the DPRK, and officials of the Chinese embassy here.

Jon Yong Jin in his opening address referred to the fact that President Kim Il Sung provided the DPRK-China friendly relations together with Chairman Mao Zedong and Premier Zhou Enlai.

He recalled that recently General Secretary Kim Jong Il enjoyed the drama "A Sentry under a Neon Lamp" and said that it is the invariable will of the Workers' Party and people of Korea to further consolidate and develop the precious DPRK-China friendship provided by the leaders of the elder generation of the two countries.

Then, speeches were made by Li Xiaohua and Li Yinghai on behalf of Chinese painters.

The speakers noted that the traditional Sino-DPRK friendship is the friendship that struck deep roots in the minds of the peoples of the two countries, standing all sorts of tests of history.

They expressed belief that the exhibition would contribute to promoting the exchange between the two countries in the cultural field and significantly decorating the "year of Sino-DPRK friendship."

At the end of the opening ceremony, the participants looked round the art works on display.
