Memorial Service Held for Koreans Killed in Great Kanto Quake
Pyongyang, September 3 (KCNA) -- A memorial service was held in Tokyo on September 1 for the Koreans who were killed in the massacre of Koreans perpetrated by the Japanese imperialists during the great Kanto quake.

Present there were Ko Tok U, vice-chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), officials of the Tokyo Metropolitan Headquarters of Chongryon, compatriots and students of Korean schools.

Ri Myong Yu, vice-chairman of the Tokyo Metropolitan Headquarters of Chongryon, in his memorial address at the service referred to the fact that a large number of Koreans were brutally killed by the Japanese government and the ultra-right forces during the great earthquake that occurred in Kanto region on September 1, 1923.

86 years have passed since the massacre but the Japanese authorities have not yet properly probed the truth about the mass killings, far from making an apology and reparation for the massacre of Koreans, he deplored.

He strongly urged the Japanese authorities to fundamentally rectify the hostile policy towards the DPRK, drawing a proper lesson from the blood-stained history of aggression and the colonial policy in the last century.

He declared that the Korean people would force Japan to thoroughly probe the truth about their mass killings of Koreans committed by the Japanese imperialists and wrest an apology and reparation from the Japanese government and thus get the victims' grudge settled without fail.

Seizaburo Eguchi, vice-chairman of the Nakano Ward Assembly of Tokyo Metropolis who is representative of the Tokyo Ward Assemblymen's Liaison Council for the Promotion of Japan-Korea Friendship, in a speech noted that the Japanese authorities should not be allowed to cover up the massacre of Koreans and the national discrimination perpetrated in the past. He added that he would intensify the activities for friendship and fraternity with the DPRK in a bid to help Chongryon in its national education and strive hard to get the ban on the port call of Mangyongbong-92 lifted as soon as possible.
