Kim Jong Il Provides Field Guidance to Wonsan Saltern
Pyongyang, August 28 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to the Wonsan Saltern.

After being briefed on the saltern before the map on its panoramic view, he acquainted himself in detail with the production there, going round the saltern covering vast area.

Expressing great satisfaction over the fact that the workers of the saltern have made remarkable achievements just in a few years, including the systematic increase of output and the laying of solid material and technological foundation for radical growth in salt production in the near future, he highly praised their feats and gave special thanks to them.

Many salterns including the Wonsan Saltern and the Kwangmyongsong Saltern were built and their potentials have been fully displayed to usher in a new history of the powerful salt-making industry on the east coast which had been regarded as unfit for the salt production, he said, adding: This great change is a striking demonstration of the inexhaustible creative power of the Korean people in the era of Songun.

He repeatedly noted with high appreciation that in recent years Kangwon Province has done a lot of things in such nature-harnessing projects as the construction of the Wonsan Youth Power Station and the saltern and in the overall economic work.

He called upon all the sectors and units to work great miracles and make leaping forward in the general advance to open the gate to a great prosperous and powerful nation by more properly organizing the mass political work and economic work.

He advanced highly important tasks that would serve as guidelines in developing the saltern on a long-term basis.

It is important among other things to increase the per hectare salt output by putting salt production on a modern basis as it is difficult to create many salt fields in the DPRK where cultivated land is limited, he said, calling for actively applying advanced salt production methods.

He underscored the need to take good care of the living of the workers of the saltern as they work in salty water for hours and indicated specific ways to do so.

He was accompanied by Ri Chol Bong, chief secretary of the Kangwon Provincial Committee of the WPK, Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the WPK Central Committee, and Pak Nam Gi and Kim Kyong Hui, department directors of the C.C., the WPK.
