Scientific and Technological Successes in DPRK
Pyongyang, August 24 (KCNA) -- Scientists and technicians of the DPRK have of late solved lots of scientific and technological problems to make a positive contribution to the building of a great, prosperous and powerful nation.

Those of the Chollima Steel Complex renewed the refractory-laying method while producing refractory bricks to be used in purification furnace by itself, thus extending the serviceable life of the furnace from 2-3 times to more than 5 times compared with the previous one.

The Posan Iron Works increased the serviceable life of the revolving furnace three times by putting its operation on a scientific basis as against the pre-scientification and remarkably raised the efficiency of dust collection by improving the dust collection system. It is now striving to introduce a furnace-body blower into revolving furnace No. 2.

Those of the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex are directing much effort to applying a new rational ignition technology to the Juche-iron production process.

The Kim Jong Thae Electric Locomotive Complex and the railway bureaus of the country have opened a bright vista for completing at an early date important researches needed to develop a new kind of electric locomotive, increase rolling-stock production and putting railway traffic control system on a modern basis.

The Hochongang Power Station succeeded in the die casting of the water turbine bucket at the first go-off which had been done after five or six trials. Power bases across the country including the Pukchang Thermal Power Complex introduced the technology of lowering the flame center and the remote fire observation system in all the boilers and renovated the generating facilities.

The Tanchon District General Mining Bureau applied several highly efficient ring-shape excavating frames and a new kind of rock-drills to cutting faces of the Roun Mine and the Namphung Mine under the Komdok Mining Complex.

The Rakwon Machine Complex is pushing ahead with the project for manufacturing oxygen plants of various capacities.

The Taean Heavy Machine Complex, basing itself on the experience gained in developing and introducing the digital water turbine bucket processing lathe, has set forth a bold goal to digitalize various kinds of large-sized facilities.
